Vermont Street in West Asheville will close from 5:30 to 9:30 pm on Halloween. Members of the West Asheville Neighborhood Association have already received proper permitting but are hoping to recoup the $300-plus dollar costs for six barricades that will keep cars out and children trick or treating much safer during the evening.I’m really excited to hear they’re closing the street off because last year I took pictures of all the people with cars driving down it and it really felt unsafe, said Michael Dickson.

The neighborhood association is also looking for volunteers to help man the barricades as well as assist with various tasks during the evening trick or treating. Because so many children come donations will also go towards helping offset costs to cover candy for the neighbors up and down Vermont Avenue who are visited by more than a thousand children during the evening.By Kimberly King
